1 إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي بَيْتِهِ ثُمَّ أَتَـى الْمَسْجِدَ كَانَ فِي صَلَاةٍ

When one of you performs wudu at home and then comes to the mosque, he is in prayer

1 hadith (755 — 755)

2 إِذَا تَوَضَّأْتَ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَا تُشَبِّكَنَّ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِكَ

When you have performed wudu and entered the mosque, do not interlace your fingers

2 hadith (756 — 757)

3 إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ -

When one of you enters the mosque, let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

2 hadith (758 — 759)

4 كَانَ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةَ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَهَمْزِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ وَنَفْثِهِ "

When he (peace and blessings be upon him) began the prayer he would say: O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his pride and his poetry

3 hadith (760 — 762)

5 كَانَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَا يَعْلَمُ خَتْمَ السُّورَةِ حَتَّى تَنْزِلَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not know the end of a surah until Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim was revealed

6 إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَرَأَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ( بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ) فَعَدَّهَا آيَةً

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim in prayer and counted it as a verse

10 إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي إِنَّمَا يَقُومُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ فَلْيَنْظُرْ كَيْفَ يُنَاجِيهِ

When one of you stands to pray he is conversing privately with his Lord, so let him consider how he converses with Him

11 لَا يَزَالُ اللَّهُ مُقْبِلًا عَلَى الْعَبْدِ مَا لَمْ يَلْتَفِتْ فَإِذَا صَرَفَ وَجْهَهُ انْصَرَفَ عَنْهُ

Allah continues to turn towards the servant as long as he does not look away, and when he turns his face away, Allah turns away from him

3 hadith (781 — 783)

12 الِالْتِفَاتُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ هُوَ اخْتِلَاسٌ يَخْتَلِسُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَبْدِ

Looking around during prayer is a theft that Satan steals from the servant's prayer

13 أُمُّ الْقُرْآنِ عِوَضٌ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا وَلَيْسَ غَيْرُهَا مِنْهَا عِوَضًا .

The Mother of the Quran suffices in place of others, but nothing else suffices in place of it

4 hadith (786 — 789)

14 إِذَا قَرَأَ الْإِمَامُ فَلَا تَقْرَؤُوا إِلَّا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا

When the imam recites, do not recite except the Mother of the Quran, for there is no prayer for one who does not recite it

15 كَانَ عَلِيٌّ يَأْمُرُ أَنْ يُقْرَأَ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ وَفِي الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ

Ali used to command reciting behind the imam al-Fatihah and a surah in the first two rakahs and al-Fatihah in the last two

16 كَانَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ بِالْوَاقِعَةِ وَنَحْوِهَا مِنَ السُّوَرِ

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite al-Waqiah and similar surahs in the Fajr prayer

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in prayer with one verse, repeating it until morning

19 الْأَمْرُ بِالِاطْمِئْنَانِ وَاعْتِدَالِ الْأَرْكَانِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ .

The command to be at ease and to perform the pillars of the prayer properly

20 يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ قُرْآنًا

The one who knows the most Quran should lead the people in prayer

21 لَمْ يَمُتْ نَبِيٌّ حَتَّى يَؤُمَّهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ

No Prophet died until a man from his people led him in prayer

22 إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فِي رَحْلِهِ ثُمَّ أَدْرَكَ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَ الْإِمَامِ فَلْيُصَلِّهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَهُ نَافِلَةٌ

When one of you has prayed at his dwelling and then finds the prayer with the imam, let him pray it, for it will be voluntary for him

23 مَنْ سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْ فَلَا صَلَاةَ لَهُ

Whoever hears the call and does not respond has no prayer

1 hadith (812 — 812)

24 مَنْ سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ فَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ فَلَا صَلَاةَ لَهُ إِلَّا مِنْ عُذْرٍ

Whoever hears the call and does not come to it has no prayer, except with an excuse

25 مَنْ سَمِعَ الصَّلَاةَ يُنَادَى بِهَا صَحِيحًا مِنْ غَيْرِ عُذْرٍ فَلَمْ يَأْتِهَا لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ صَلَاةً فِي غَيْرِهَا

Whoever hears the call to prayer while healthy and without excuse and does not come to it, Allah does not accept any other prayer from him

26 لَا صَلَاةَ لِجَارِ الْمَسْجِدِ إِلَّا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ

There is no prayer for the neighbour of the mosque except in the mosque

27 مَا مِنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ فِي قَرْيَةٍ وَلَا فِي بَدْوٍ لَا تُقَامُ فِيهِمُ الصَّلَاةُ إِلَّا اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَعَلَيْكَ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ

No three people in a village or in the desert among whom prayer is not established but Satan overpowers them, so adhere to the congregation

28 تَأْكِيدُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ

The emphasis of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Isha prayer

29 أَثْقَلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلَاةُ الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلَاةُ الْفَجْرِ

The heaviest prayers on the hypocrites are the Isha prayer and the Fajr prayer

30 نَهَى أَنْ يُصَلَّى فِي لِحَافٍ لَا يُتَوَشَّحُ بِهِ ، وَنَهَى أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ

He forbade praying in a sheet not wrapped around the body, and forbade a man praying in trousers without an upper wrap

31 تُصَلِّي الْمَرْأَةُ فِي دِرْعٍ وَخِمَارٍ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهَا إِزَارٌ إِذَا كَانَ الدِّرْعُ سَابِغًا يُغَطِّي ظُهُورَ قَدَمَيْهَا

A woman may pray in a long shirt and headcover without a lower garment if the shirt is long enough to cover the tops of her feet

32 لَا تُقْبَلُ صَلَاةُ حَائِضٍ إِلَّا بِخِمَارٍ

The prayer of a woman who has reached puberty is not accepted without a headcover

33 الْأَرْضُ كُلُّهَا مَسْجِدٌ إِلَّا الْحَمَّامُ وَالْمَقْبَرَةُ

All the earth is a place of prayer except the bathhouse and the graveyard

34 لَا تُصَلُّوا إِلَّا إِلَى سُتْرَةٍ وَلَا تَدَعْ أَحَدًا يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

Do not pray except towards a sutrah, and do not let anyone pass in front of you

35 لَا يُصَلَّى فِي شَعْرِنَا وَلُحَفِنَا

Prayer is not offered on our hair cloths and our blankets

36 يُجْزِئُ مِنَ السُّتْرَةِ مِثْلُ مُؤَخِّرَةِ الرَّحْلِ وَلَوْ بِدَقَّةِ شَعْرَةٍ

Something like the back of a saddle suffices as a sutrah, even if as thin as a hair

37 لِيَسْتُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ صَلَاتَهُ وَلَوْ بِسَهْمٍ

Let one of you screen his prayer, even with an arrow

38 الصَّلَاةُ فِي الْجَمَاعَةِ تَعْدِلُ خَمْسًا وَعِشْرِينَ صَلَاةً فَإِذَا صَلَّاهَا فِي الْفَلَاةِ فَأَتَمَّ رُكُوعَهَا وَسُجُودَهَا بَلَغَتْ خَمْسِينَ صَلَاةً

Prayer in congregation equals twenty-five prayers, and if one prays it in the open desert completing its bowing and prostration it reaches fifty prayers

39 لَا تَمْنَعُوا نِسَاءَكُمُ الْمَسَاجِدَ وَبُيُوتُهُنَّ خَيْرٌ لَهُنَّ

Do not prevent your women from the mosques, though their houses are better for them

40 خَيْرُ مَسَاجِدِ النِّسَاءِ قَعْرُ بُيُوتِهِنَّ

The best mosque for women is the innermost part of their houses

41 إِقَامَةُ الْجَمَاعَةِ فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ مَرَّتَيْنِ

Holding the congregational prayer twice in the mosque

42 مَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَأَصَابَ الْوَقْتَ فَلَهُ وَلَهُمْ وَمَنِ انْتَقَصَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا فَعَلَيْهِ وَلَا عَلَيْهِمْ

Whoever leads people in prayer and observes the time, it is for him and for them, and whoever falls short in any of it, it is against him and not against them

43 نَهَى النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنْ يَقُومَ الْإِمَامُ فَوْقُ وَيَبْقَى النَّاسُ خَلْفَهُ

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the imam to stand on a higher place with the people behind him below

44 كُنَّا إِذَا فَقَدْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَالصُّبْحِ أَسَأْنَا بِهِ الظَّنَّ

When we missed someone at the Isha and Fajr prayers we would think ill of him

45 فَضِيلَةُ الْمَشْيِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ

The virtue of walking to the mosque

46 بَشِّرِ الْمَشَّائِينَ فِي الظُّلَمِ إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ بِالنُّورِ التَّامِّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

Give glad tidings to those who walk to the mosques in darkness of complete light on the Day of Resurrection

7 hadith (862 — 868)

47 مَنْ وَصَلَ صَفًّا وَصَلَهُ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ قَطَعَ صَفًّا قَطَعَهُ اللَّهُ

Whoever joins a row, Allah joins him, and whoever breaks a row, Allah cuts him off

48 كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهُ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ ثَلَاثًا وَلِلثَّانِي مَرَّةً

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would seek forgiveness three times for the front row and once for the second

6 hadith (871 — 876)

49 إِذَا نَهَضَ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ اسْتَفْتَحَ بِـ ( الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ) وَلَمْ يَسْكُتْ

When he rose for the second rak'ah he began with "All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds" and did not remain silent

50 وَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَةً فَقَدْ أَدْرَكَ الصَّلَاةَ

Whoever catches one rak'ah has caught the prayer

51 مِنْ حُسْنِ الصَّلَاةِ إِقَامَةُ الصَّفِّ

Straightening the rows is part of the excellence of the prayer

52 مِنَ السُّنَّةِ إِذَا دَخَلْتَ الْمَسْجِدَ أَنْ تَبْدَأَ بِرِجْلِكَ الْيُمْنَى وَإِذَا خَرَجْتَ أَنْ تَبْدَأَ بِرِجْلِكَ الْيُسْرَى

It is from the Sunnah to enter the mosque with the right foot first and leave with the left foot first

53 لِيَلِيَنِّي مِنْكُمْ أُولُو الْأَحْلَامِ وَالنُّهَى

Let those of you with understanding and intelligence stand closest to me

55 حِكَايَةُ سَجْدَةِ الشَّجْرَةِ عِنْدَ قِرَاءَةِ الصَّحَابِيِّ آيَةَ السَّجْدَةِ

The account of the tree prostrating when a Companion recited a verse of prostration

56 كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي سُجُودِ الْقُرْآنِ بِاللَّيْلِ : " سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ فَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ بِحَوْلِهِ وَقُوَّتِهِ "

At night in the prostration of recitation, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "My face has prostrated to the One who created it and brought forth its hearing and sight by His might and power"

57 أَوَّلُ سُورَةٍ نَزَلَتْ فِيهَا السَّجْدَةُ الْحَجُّ

The first surah in which a prostration was revealed is Surah al-Hajj

58 أَوَّلُ سُورَةٍ قَرَأَهَا النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلَى النَّاسِ سُورَةُ الْحَجِّ حَتَّى إِذَا قَرَأَهَا سَجَدَ فَسَجَدَ النَّاسُ

The first surah the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited to the people was Surah al-Hajj, and when he recited it he prostrated and the people prostrated

59 فُضِّلَتْ سُورَةُ الْحَجِّ بِسَجْدَتَيْنِ

Surah al-Hajj has been favoured with two prostrations

60 تَطْوِيلُ الدُّعَاءِ فِي سُجُودِ تِلَاوَةِ الْقُرْآنِ وَتَكْرَارُهُ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ لَا يَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا

Prolonging the supplication in the prostration of recitation, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) repeating "O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of all", adding nothing to it

61 مَنْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكَ سَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَمَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْكَ صَلَّيْتُ عَلَيْهِ

Allah says: Whoever sends salam upon you, I send salam upon him, and whoever sends blessings upon you, I send blessings upon him

62 خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَجْدَةً فِي الْقُرْآنِ

There are fifteen prostrations in the Quran

63 كَانَ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ أُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ فَقَالَ : آمِينَ

When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished Surah al-Fatihah he would raise his voice and say Amin

64 أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ فَرَّجَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ

When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed he would spread his fingers apart

7 hadith (909 — 914)

65 الْقُنُوتُ فِي الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ وَالدُّعَاءُ فِيهِ عَلَى الْكُفَّارِ

Qunut in the five prayers and supplicating against the disbelievers in it

66 كَانَ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا سَجَدَ ضَمَّ أَصَابِعَهُ

When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated he would keep his fingers together

3 hadith (926 — 928)

67 نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَنْ نَقْرَةِ الْغُرَابِ وَافْتِرَاشِ السَّبُعِ وَأَنْ يُوطِّنَ الرَّجُلُ الْمَكَانَ كَمَا يُوطِّنُهُ الْبَعِيرُ

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade pecking like a crow, spreading the arms like a beast of prey, and a man fixing a place for himself as a camel does

4 hadith (929 — 932)

68 نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا جَلَسَ الرَّجُلُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ أَنْ يَعْتَمِدَ عَلَى يَدِهِ الْيُسْرَى

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a man from leaning on his left hand when sitting in prayer

1 hadith (933 — 933)

69 مِنْ سُنَّةِ الصَّلَاةِ أَنْ يُخْفِيَ التَّشَهُّدَ

It is from the Sunnah of prayer to say the tashahhud quietly

70 إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِتَحْمِيدِ رَبِّهِ وَالثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْهِ وَلْيُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ -

When one of you prays, let him begin by praising his Lord and extolling Him, then send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

71 حَذْفُ السَّلَامِ سُنَّةٌ

Shortening the salam is Sunnah

3 hadith (938 — 939)

72 كَانَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَا يَعْلَمُ خَتْمَ السُّورَةِ حَتَّى تَنْزِلَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not know the end of a surah until "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" was revealed

73 لِيَسْتُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ صَلَاتَهُ وَلَوْ بِسَهْمٍ

Let each of you place a sutrah for his prayer, even if only an arrow

74 أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُسَبِّحَ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ وَنَحْمَدُ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ وَنُكَبِّرُ أَرْبَعًا وَثَلَاثِينَ

We were commanded to glorify Allah thirty-three times after every prayer, praise Him thirty-three times and magnify Him thirty-four times

75 اقْرَءُوا الْمُعَوِّذَاتِ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ

Recite the Mu'awwidhat after every prayer

76 إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ فَلْيَشُدَّهُ عَلَى حِقْوِهِ وَلَا تَشْتَمِلُوا كَاشْتِمَالِ الْيَهُودِ

When one of you prays in a single garment, let him tie it around his waist, and do not wrap yourselves as the Jews do

Allah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to us when we knew nothing, so we only do as we saw Muhammad do
