Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the tashahhud just as he taught us a surah of the Qur'an: 'Bismillahi wa billah, at-tahiyyatu lillah, as-salawatut-tayyibatu lillah, as-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, as-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh, nas'alullahal-jannata wa na'udhu bihi minan-nar' (In the name of Allah and by the grace of Allah. All verbal, bodily and financial worship is for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant and Messenger of Allah. We ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire).
Imam al-Hakim says: Ayman bin Nabil is trustworthy (thiqah), and Imam Bukhari used him as evidence; Yahya bin Ma'in also declared him trustworthy.
