The Status of Masjid al-Haram
Masjid al-Haram is the first house of worship built for mankind and the qiblah of every Muslim. Allah says: "Indeed, the first House established for mankind was that at Bakkah — blessed and a guidance for the worlds." (Aal Imran 3:96)
The Prophet ﷺ said: "A prayer in my mosque is better than a thousand prayers elsewhere, except al-Masjid al-Haram, and a prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is better than a hundred thousand prayers elsewhere." (Sunan Ibn Majah 1406, sahih)
He ﷺ also said: "Do not set out on a journey except to three mosques: al-Masjid al-Haram, this mosque of mine, and al-Masjid al-Aqsa." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1189, Sahih Muslim 1397)
