It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished with the salam, he asked: "Is so-and-so present?" Then he mentioned the complete hadith.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: The hadith is hasan, Technical note / Defect ('illah): but the mention of "al-Ayzar bin Hurayth" in it between Abu Ishaq and Abu Basir appears to be an error, perhaps the error of Ali bin Bakkar, because he is not mentioned in the preserved narration of Sufyan al-Thawri. Al-Ayzar himself is thiqah. Abu Ishaq al-Fazari refers to Ibrahim bin Muhammad. Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "al-Hilyah" (9/321) by the route of Ali bin Bakkar, with this same chain.
