Book of Leading the Prayer and Congregational Prayer
إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فِي رَحْلِهِ ثُمَّ أَدْرَكَ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَ الْإِمَامِ فَلْيُصَلِّهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَهُ نَافِلَةٌ
When one of you has prayed at his dwelling and then finds the prayer with the imam, let him pray it, for it will be voluntary for him

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، أخبرنا الرَّبيع بن سليمان، أخبرنا الشافعي، أخبرنا عبد العزيز بن محمد، عن زيد بن أسلم، فذكره بنحوه.
هذا حديث صحيح، ومالكُ بن أنس الحَكَمُ في حديث المدنيِّين، وقد احتَجَّ به في "الموطأ" (1)، وهو من النوع الذي قدَّمتُ ذِكرَه أنَّ الصحابي إذا لم يكن له راويان لم يخرجاه (2). وله شاهد مثلُ هذا النوع بإسناد صحيح:
[التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] ترقيم العلميه 891 - محجن تفرد عنه ابنه

A similar report is narrated from Sayyiduna Mihjan (may Allah be pleased with him).
Imam al-Hakim says that this hadith is sahih (authentic), and Imam Malik bin Anas is the authority on the hadith of the people of Madinah. This is one of those reports in which the Companion has only one narrator, for which reason the two Shaykhs do not record it; but it has a corroborating report (shahid) with a sahih chain.
