لَا يَزَالُ اللَّهُ مُقْبِلًا عَلَى الْعَبْدِ مَا لَمْ يَلْتَفِتْ فَإِذَا صَرَفَ وَجْهَهُ انْصَرَفَ عَنْهُ

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا بَحْر بن نَصْر بن سابق الخَوْلاني، حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب. وأخبرنا أبو [منصور] محمد بن القاسم العَتَكي، حدثنا الفضل بن محمد بن المسيَّب، حدثنا عبد الله بن صالح؛ قالا حدثنا الليث، حدثني يونس، عن ابن شِهاب قال: سمعت أبا الأحَوص يحدِّث (1) سعيدَ بن المسيّب، أنَّ أبا ذرٍّ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "لا يزالُ اللهُ مُقبلًا على العبد ما لم يَلتفِتْ، فَإِذَا صَرَفَ وجَهَه انصَرَفَ عنه" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه، وأبو الأحوص هذا مولى بنى اللَّيث تابعيٌّ من أهل المدينة، وثَّقه الزُّهْري وروى عنه، وجَرَتْ بينه وبين سعد بن إبراهيم مناظرةٌ في معناه (3).

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty remains turned towards the servant as long as he does not look about (in the prayer); then when he turns his face away, Allah also turns away from him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Its narrator Abu al-Ahwas is a Successor (tabi'i) of Madinah whose trustworthiness Imam al-Zuhri affirmed.

(1) في (ع) والمطبوع: يحدِّث عن، بزيادة "عن"، وهو خطأ، فالراوي هنا عن أبي ذر هو أبو الأحوص لا سعيد بن المسيّب.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript ('Ayn) and the printed edition it is written "yuhaddithu 'an" (with the addition of the word 'an), which is a mistake, because the narrator here from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) is "Abu al-Ahwas", not Sa'id bin al-Musayyib.
(2) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد محتمل للتحسين من أجل أبي الأحوص: وهو مولى بني ليث. يونس: هو ابن يزيد الأيلي.
Grading: It is "sahih li-ghayrihi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain may possibly be graded "hasan" on account of Abu al-Ahwas (the mawla of Banu Layth).
Important point: "Yunus" in the chain is Yunus bin Yazid al-Ayli.
وأخرجه أحمد 35 / (21508)، والنسائي (532) و (1119) من طريق عبد الله بن المبارك، وأبو داود (909) من طريق عبد الله بن وهب، كلاهما عن يونس، بهذا الإسناد. فيكون بذلك ابن وهب سمعه من الليث ومن يونس بن يزيد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (35/21508) and al-Nasa'i (532, 1119) narrated it via Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak, and Abu Dawud (909) via Abd Allah bin Wahb (both narrating from Yunus).
Note / Clarification: This shows that Ibn Wahb heard it from both al-Layth and Yunus bin Yazid.
