It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! I am without sight, my house is far away, and I have no guide who suits me. Is there an exemption for me to pray at home?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you hear the call to prayer?" He said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not find any exemption for you."
Imam al-Hakim says that its corroborating report (shahid) also exists through the narration of Asim bin Bahdalah.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, but this chain is "munqati'". Abu Razin (Mas'ud bin Malik al-Asadi) did not hear from Ibn Umm Maktum, as Yahya bin Ma'in said. Abu Khalifah refers to al-Fadl bin al-Hubab, and Hammad refers to Ibn Zayd. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (552) narrated it from Sulayman bin Harb, with this same chain. (6819 - 6821). Reference / Source: Ahmad and Ibn Majah (792) narrated it by the route of Asim bin Abi al-Najud (Ibn Bahdalah). It will come further on at numbers (6819-6821). Variation in the chain: Ibrahim bin Tahman narrated it by the chain of Asim from Zirr bin Hubaysh (number 6818), which is an error (wahm); the preserved (mahfuz) chain is "Asim from Abu Razin".
