Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began the prayer, he would say: 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabaraka ismuka, wa ta'ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghayruka' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise; blessed is Your name, exalted is Your majesty, and there is no god besides You).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. It has a supporting report from the hadith of Harithah bin Muhammad.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (hasan on account of other supporting reports). Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the narrators of this chain are trustworthy (thiqah) except Abd al-Salam bin Harb: although he himself is trustworthy, "manakir" (munkar narrations) are transmitted from him. Moreover, among all of Budayl's students he alone mentioned the opening supplication (du'a al-istiftah), whereas a whole group who narrated the account of the prayer from Budayl made no mention of it (the supplication), as Abu Dawud stated explicitly after documenting this hadith. Important point: "Abu al-Jawza'" in the chain is Aws bin Abd Allah al-Raba'i. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (776) narrated it via Husayn bin Isa from Talq bin Ghannam with this same chain. For further detail see the next narration. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report for this narration is the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) found with Ahmad (18/11473) and other hadith scholars, though its chain has been criticized (it contains weakness). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), found with al-Tabarani at (10117) and (10280) with two weak chains. (399) (52). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A third supporting report is the mawquf saying of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come later with the author, and it is also in 'Sahih Muslim' (399) (52).
