It is narrated from Sayyiduna Fadalah bin Ubayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man who prayed but neither praised and glorified Allah Almighty (in it) nor sent blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he finished the prayer and turned away. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This man has been hasty." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and said, addressing him or someone else: "When one of you prays, let him begin with the praise and glorification of his Lord, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after that let him supplicate for whatever he wishes."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs, and there is no hidden defect ('illah) in it that affects its authenticity, yet they did not record it. It also has a sahih supporting narration (shahid) on the condition of both of them.

Abu al-Ahwas and Abu Ubaydah (may Allah have mercy on them both) relate that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man should (in prayer) first recite the tashahhud, then send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after that supplicate for himself.
This hadith has also been narrated as a statement of the Prophet from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) with a sahih chain in which one narrator is left unnamed.
