Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 975

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer one day, gave the salam and left while one rak'ah of the prayer still remained.
This hadith has an authentic chain and is on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim). It is of the kind in which a corroborating narrator for the Companion is sought, although they have both already recorded others like it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) The chain is strong (qawi); Ubayd bin Sharik is a saduq narrator.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) Al-Hakim's statement that it is a condition of the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) to accept a Companion's narration only when another Companion supports it is a "dhuhul" (lapse) on his part; for the two Shaykhs laid down no such condition, and no scholar other than al-Hakim has attributed this to them.
