أخبرنا أبو الحُسين أحمد بن عثمان البزَّاز ببغداد، حدثنا أبو إسماعيل محمد بن إسماعيل السُّلَمي، حدثنا أيوب بن سليمان بن بلال، حدثني أبو بكر بن أبي أُوَيس، عن سليمان بن بلال، عن عمر بن محمد بن زيد، عن سالم بن عبد الله بن عمر، عن عبد الله بن عمر، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ، قال: "إذا صَلَّى أحدُكم فلا يَدْري كم صَلَّى، ثلاثًا أو أربعًا، فليَركَعْ ركعةً يُحسِنُ ركوعَها وسجودَها، ويَسجُدْ سجدتين" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه بهذه الزيادة من ذِكْر الركعة (2). وله شاهد لم يخرجاه، وهو قوله ﷺ: "إذا شَكَّ أحدُكم في النُّقصان فليُصلِّ حتى يشكَّ في الزِّيادة" (3).

هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه بهذه الزيادة من ذِكْر الركعة (2). وله شاهد لم يخرجاه، وهو قوله ﷺ: "إذا شَكَّ أحدُكم في النُّقصان فليُصلِّ حتى يشكَّ في الزِّيادة" (3).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you prays and does not remember how many rak'ahs he has prayed, three or four, let him pray one more rak'ah, performing its bowing and prostrations well, and then make two prostrations (of forgetfulness)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this addition mentioning the rak'ah. It does, however, have a supporting narration, in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you doubts that he has prayed too little, let him keep praying until he doubts that he has prayed too much."

أخبرنا أبو عمرو عثمان بن أحمد بن سَمَّاك ببغداد، حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم الواسطي، حدثنا وَهْب بن جَرِير بن حازم، حدثنا أبي قال: سمعت يحيى بن أيوب يُحدِّث عن يزيد بن أبي حَبِيب، عن سُوَيد بن قيس، عن معاوية بن حُدَيج قال: صلَّيتُ مع رسول الله ﷺ: المغربَ، فسَهَا، فسلَّمَ في ركعتين ثم انصرفَ، فقال له رجل: يا رسول الله، إنك سَهَوتَ فسلَّمتَ في ركعتين! فأمرَ بلالًا فأقامَ الصلاةَ ثم أتمَّ تلك الركعةَ، فسألتُ الناس عن الرجل الذي قال: يا رسول الله، إنك سَهَوتَ، فقيل لي: تعرفُه؟ قلت: لا، إلَّا أن أَراه، فمرَّ بي رجل فقلت: هو هذا، فقالوا: هذا طلحةُ بن عُبيد الله (1). اختصره الليثُ بن سعد عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب:

Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I prayed Maghrib with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) forgot and gave the salam after two rak'ahs, then left. A man said to him: O Messenger of Allah, you forgot and gave the salam after two rak'ahs! So he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal, who called the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) completed that one rak'ah. I asked the people about the man who had said: O Messenger of Allah, you forgot. I was asked: Do you know him? I said: No, unless I see him. Then a man passed by me and I said: It is this one. They said: This is Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Layth bin Sa'd narrated it in abridged form from Yazid bin Abi Habib:

هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد على شرط الشيخين، وهو من النوع الذي يَطلُبان للصحابي متابِعًا (3) في الرواية، على أنهما جميعًا قد خرَّجا مثلَ هذا.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer one day, gave the salam and left while one rak'ah of the prayer still remained.
This hadith has an authentic chain and is on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim). It is of the kind in which a corroborating narrator for the Companion is sought, although they have both already recorded others like it.
