Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 901

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer and performed a prostration (of recitation), and we assumed that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had recited Surah al-Sajdah.
Imam al-Hakim says that this hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it. It is an authentic and rare Sunnah that the imam should perform the prostration of recitation in the silent prayers (in which the recitation is kept quiet) just as he does in the prayers recited aloud.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) The chain is weak because of a break (inqita').
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sulayman al-Taymi did not hear it from Abu Mijlaz (Lahiq bin Humayd), as stated explicitly in Ahmad (9/5556), and in the narration of Abu Dawud (807) the intermediary between them is an unknown person named "Umayyah".

Grading: (2) Once the weakness of the chain is established, attributing it to the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is not correct.
