إِذَا قَرَأَ الْإِمَامُ فَلَا تَقْرَؤُوا إِلَّا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا

ما أخبرَناه أبو محمد عبد الرحمن بن حَمْدان الجَلّاب، حدثنا إسحاق بن أحمد بن مِهران الخَزَّاز، حدثنا إسحاق بن سليمان الرازي، حدثنا معاوية بن يحيى، عن إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي فَروة، عن عبد الله بن عمرو بن الحارث، عن محمود بن الرَّبيع الأنصاري قال: قام إلى جنبي عُبادة بن الصامت فقرأَ مع الإمام وهو يقرأُ، فلما انصرف قلت: أبا الوليد، تقرأُ وتُسمِعُ وهو يَجهَر بالقراءة؟! قال: نعم، إنَّا قرأنا مع رسول الله ﷺ، فغَلِطَ رسول الله ﷺ ثم سَبَّح، فقال لنا حين انصرف: "هل قرأ معي أحدٌ؟ " قلنا: نعم، قال: "قد عَجِبتُ قلتُ: مَن هذا الذي يُنازِعُني القرآنَ؟ إذا قرأ الإمامُ فلا تقرؤوا إلّا بأمِّ القرآن، فإنه لا صلاةَ لمن لم يَقرَأْ بها" (2). هذا متابِعٌ لمكحول في روايته عن محمود بن الرَّبيع، وهو عزيز، وإن كان راويهِ إسحاق بن أبي فَرْوة فإني ذكرتُه شاهدًا.
Mahmud bin al-Rabi' al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) stood beside me and recited along with the imam while the imam was reciting aloud. When he finished, I said: "Abu al-Walid, you recite, and loud enough to be heard, while he is reciting aloud?" He said: "Yes. We once recited along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made a mistake and then said 'Subhan Allah'. When he finished, he said to us: 'Did anyone recite along with me?' We said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I was wondering and said to myself: Who is this who is contending with me in the Qur'an? When the imam recites, do not recite anything except Surah al-Fatihah, for there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it.'"

(2) إسناده ضعيف جدًّا، إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي فروة متروك، وقال الذهبي في "تلخيصه": هالك، ومعاوية بن يحيى - وهو الصَّدَفي - ضعيف.
Grading: Its chain is very weak (da'if jiddan).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq bin Abd Allah bin Abi Farwah is a "matruk" (abandoned) narrator, and al-Dhahabi in his book 'al-Talkhis' called him "halik" (ruined, i.e. extremely weak), while Mu'awiyah bin Yahya al-Sadafi is also weak.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "القراءة خلف الإمام" (118) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد. ¤ ¤ وأخرجه الدارقطني (1222) من طريق إبراهيم بن محمد العتيق، عن إسحاق بن سليمان الرازي، به. وضعَّفه بمعاوية وإسحاق بن أبي فروة.

Note / Clarification: Al-Daraqutni narrated it at (1222) via Ibrahim bin Muhammad al-Atiq from Ishaq bin Sulayman al-Razi and declared it weak because of Mu'awiyah and Ishaq bin Abi Farwah.
