Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 789

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you recite along with me in the prayer?" We said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not recite anything except Fatihat al-Kitab."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: God willing, its chain is sahih, but the intermediary (Abu Nu'aym) mentioned between Mahmud (bin al-Rabi') and Ubadah is to be removed, because it is a mistake; as explained earlier, Abu Nu'aym was merely the mu'adhdhin, not a narrator.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in his books 'al-Sunan' 2/165 and 'al-Qira'ah Khalf al-Imam' (125) through Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni narrated it at (1218) through the chain Abu Muhammad bin Sa'id from Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in 'Musnad al-Shamiyyin' (296) via Abdus bin Dizawayh al-Razi from al-Walid bin Utbah, but with the name "Abu Nu'aym" dropped from its chain.
