Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that he passed by Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) while he was praying, and he had tied the braids of his hair at the nape of his neck. Abu Rafi' undid them. Al-Hasan looked at him in anger, so he said: Turn your attention to your prayer and do not be angry, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "That is the seat of Satan (that is, Satan sits there)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, and the two Shaykhs used all of its narrators as evidence except Imran. Ali bin al-Madini said of Imran bin Musa: he is Imran bin Musa bin Amr bin Sa'id bin al-As al-Qurashi, the brother of Ayyub bin Musa, and Ibn Jurayj and Ibn Ulayyah narrated from him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
39/ (23878). Grading: (3) The chain is "hasan" on account of Imran bin Musa; it is in "Musnad Ahmad" (39/23878). Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (646) and al-Tirmidhi (384) narrated it via two routes from Abd al-Razzaq, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (2279) narrated it via the chain of Hajjaj bin Muhammad from Ibn Jurayj. Reference / Source: A narration of similar meaning is reported by Ahmad (23873) and Ibn Majah (1042) via the chain of Mukhawwal bin Rashid from Abu Sa'd from Abu Rafi', but its chain has been criticised.
(Clarification): "Gharaza dafrahu fi qafahu" means: twisting one's hair and tucking its ends into the roots of the hair at the nape of the neck.
43/ 522. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) The manuscripts read "'ala kull"; most likely this is a corruption of "'an". The meaning is that Ibn Jurayj and Ibn 'Ulayyah narrated from Imran bin Musa and his brother Ayyub. Al-Dhahabi, drawing on Ibn Asakir, also mentioned a third narrator from him, Zayd bin Yahya.
