Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When there are three men in a town or in the desert and they do not establish the prayer (together), Satan gains mastery over them." So hold fast to the congregation.

Reference / Source: Ahmad (27513) also narrated it by the chain of Ubadah bin Nusayy from Abu al-Darda', in which there is mention of Ma'dan bin Abi Talhah.
(Note / Clarification): "Istahwadha alayhim al-shaytan" means: Satan has overpowered them and taken control of them.
(Note / Clarification): "Alayka bil-jama'ah" (hold to the congregation) was explained by al-Sa'ib bin Hubaysh as meaning "prayer in congregation".
