Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 818

Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever hears the call to prayer while he is free and healthy, and does not come (to the mosque in response), there is no prayer for him."

Grading: It is sahih as mawquf (as the saying of a Companion). There is no harm in Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, but his memory deteriorated in old age. Qays bin al-Rabi' corroborated him in narrating it as marfu', but he is da'if when he contradicts others.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The two of them were contradicted in narrating it as marfu', as will come. Al-Bayhaqi said that it is narrated from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari both as marfu' and as mawquf, but the mawquf is more correct. Abu Hasin refers to Uthman bin Asim al-Asadi.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (3/174) by the chain of Abu Ja'far al-Razzaz from Isma'il al-Qadi, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi al-A'rabi narrated it in his "Mu'jam" (1056), and al-Bazzar (3157), by the route of Qays bin al-Rabi' and Abu Bakr bin Ayyash.
Variation in the chain: Mis'ar bin Kidam contradicted both of them (in Ibn Abi Shaybah, al-Bayhaqi and others): he narrated it from Abu Hasin, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa as "mawquf".
Grading: And this chain is sahih, because Mis'ar is a thiqah and thabt (firmly reliable) narrator.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (3158) narrated it as mawquf by the chain of Hafs bin Jumay' from Simak bin Harb, but Hafs is a da'if narrator.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it as mawquf by the chain of Za'idah bin Qudamah from Abu Hasin, from Abu Bakr bin Abi Burdah, from Abu Musa. Its narrators are thiqah, but al-Bayhaqi said that the mention of Abu Bakr bin Abi Burdah appears to be an error (wahm).
