Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 840

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not pray except towards a sutrah (barrier), and do not let anyone pass in front of you; if he refuses, then stop him forcefully, for the devil is with him."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) The chain is strong (qawi) on account of al-Dahhak bin Uthman.
Technical note: Abu Bakr al-Hanafi refers to Abd al-Kabir bin Abd al-Majid.
Reference / Source: Muslim (506) narrated it from Ishaq bin Ibrahim (Ibn Rahawayh), and Ibn Hibban (2362) by way of Muhammad bin Bashshar.
Important point: Imam Muslim did not cite the full wording; he only referred to an earlier wording which does not mention "Do not pray without a sutrah".
Reference / Source: Ahmad (9/5585), Muslim (506/260), Ibn Majah (955) and Ibn Hibban (2370) narrated it by the chain of Ibn Abi Fudayk from al-Dahhak, without mention of the "sutrah".
(Note / Clarification): "Fa-qatilhu" (then fight him) here means to hold him back with full force; actual fighting is not meant.
