Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 895

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that at night, in the prostration of recitation, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say this supplication: 'Sajada wajhi lilladhi khalaqahu, wa shaqqa sam'ahu wa basarahu bi-hawlihi wa quwwatihi' (My face has prostrated to the One who created it and brought forth its hearing and its sight by His might and His power).

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits

Grading: (1) Without the restriction to the prostration of recitation, it is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but
Technical note / Defect ('illah): this chain is "munqati'" because Khalid al-Hadhdha's hearing from Abu al-'Aliyah is not established. In the narration of Ahmad (43/25821) and Abu Dawud (1414), Khalid mentioned an unknown man as an intermediary between himself and Abu al-'Aliyah. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said that its defect was hidden from Imam al-Tirmidhi, al-Hakim and others, which is why they declared it sahih.
Important point: We did not find this narration in "Sahih Ibn Hibban", nor did Ibn Hajar himself mention it in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (21658) as being recorded by him (Ibn Hibban). It is in Jami' al-Tirmidhi (580, 3425).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (40/24022) narrated it with the chain of Hushaym from Khalid al-Hadhdha.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of 'Ali (Muslim 771), but that mentions that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication in the prostrations of the prayer, not specifically in the prostration of recitation.
