Al-Azraq bin Qays narrates that he saw Sayyiduna Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) praying with the reins of his mount in his hand. When he bowed, the reins slipped from his hand and the animal ran off. Sayyiduna Abu Barzah stepped backwards and, without turning his gaze away, went after the animal until he caught it. Then he walked back in the same manner to the place where he had been praying, completed his prayer, then gave the salam and said: I took part in many military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I saw concession and ease from him (peace and blessings be upon him), so I acted upon that. Had I left my animal, it would have gone off into the desert, and I, an old man, would have been left wandering in the darkness; that would have been much harder for me.
