Muhammad bin Abi al-Sari al-Asqalani said: I prayed behind al-Mu'tamir bin Sulayman more Fajr and Maghrib prayers than I can count, and he would recite "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" aloud before the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah) and after it. And I heard al-Mu'tamir say: "I spare no effort in following the prayer of my father." My father said: "I spare no effort in following the prayer of Anas bin Malik." And Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I spare no effort in following the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(151). Grading: Its chain is weak (da'if). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Abi al-Sari (whose name is Muhammad bin al-Mutawakkil) in the chain has been criticized with respect to his memory, and he himself narrated something contradicting this, as will come. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared this chain weak in 'al-Dirayah' (151). Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in 'Ma'rifat al-Sunan wa al-Athar' (3135) through Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni (1179) narrated it via Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Amr al-Ramli from Uthman bin Kharrazadh. Details of the narration: Abd Allah bin Wuhayb al-Ghazzi narrated it through the chain Muhammad bin Abi al-Sari from Mu'tamir bin Sulayman from his father from al-Hasan al-Basri from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr and Umar used to recite "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" quietly. Important point: Al-Tabarani narrated it in 'al-Mu'jam al-Kabir' (739), and this narration is more sound, because it agrees with the other preserved (mahfuz) narrations from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).
