Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 806

حدَّثَناه أبو أحمد الحسين بن علي التميمي ﵀، حدثنا أبو حامد محمد بن هارون الحَضرَمي، حدثنا المنذر بن الوليد الجارُودي، حدثنا يحيى بن زكريا بن دينار الأنصاري، حدثنا الحجَّاج، عن إسماعيل بن رجاءٍ، عن أَوْس بن ضَمْعَج، عن عُقْبة بن عمرو قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "يؤمُّ القومَ أقدمُهم هجرةً، فإن كانوا في الهجرة سواءً فأفقهُهم في الدِّين، فإن كانوا في الدين سواءً فأقرؤُهم للقرآن، ولا يُؤَمُّ الرجلُ في سُلْطانِه، ولا يُقعَدُ على تَكرِمَتِهِ إِلّا بِإِذْنِهِ" (1).
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr (Abu Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people should be led in prayer by the one who emigrated first. If they are equal in emigration, then the one with more understanding of the religion. If they are equal in the religion, then the one who is the better reciter of the Qur'an. No man should lead another in prayer in his domain (his house or place of authority), nor sit in his place of honour (his special seat) without his permission."

(1) حديث صحيح لكن وقع فيه خطأ في ترتيب الأحقيّة في الإمامة كالرواية السابقة، وهذا إسناد ليِّن، فيه يحيى بن زكريا بن دينار لم نتبيَّن حاله إذ لم نقف على ترجمة له، والحجاج بن أرطاة مدلِّس وقد عنعن.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, but, as in the previous narration, a mistake occurred in the order of those most entitled to lead the prayer.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is "layyin" (soft), because the condition of Yahya bin Zakariyya bin Dinar could not be ascertained, and al-Hajjaj bin Artah is a "mudallis" and narrates here with "'an".
وأخرجه الدارقطني (1085) عن محمد بن هارون الحضرمي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni (1085) narrated it through Muhammad bin Harun al-Hadrami with this same chain.
وأخرجه الطبراني 17 / (617) عن سهل بن أبي سهل الواسطي، عن المنذر بن الوليد، به.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (17/617) narrated it through the chain Sahl bin Abi Sahl al-Wasiti from al-Mundhir bin al-Walid.
