Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No prophet passes away until he has prayed behind a (righteous) man from his people."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, but they did not record it, while the two Shaykhs agreed on (the report of) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praying behind Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(5497). Technical note: (2) In the manuscripts the name is written "Umar", but the correct form is "Amr", as in 'Ithaf al-Maharah' 13/426 and in his biography in Ibn Abi Hatim's 'al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil' 5/120, and it will come in the same form with the author (al-Hakim) at number (5497).
Grading: (3) Its chain is weak (da'if). Criticism of a narrator: Al-Dhahabi mentioned Abd Allah bin Amr bin Abi Umayyah in 'al-Mizan' with "Amr" dropped from his name, and reported that al-Daraqutni said of him that he is not strong; Fulayh bin Sulayman has also been criticized: he is weak, but his narration is taken into consideration. Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni narrated it in his 'Sunan' (1092) through the chain Uthman bin Khurrazadh from Abd Allah bin Abi Umayyah. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of Abu Bakr (Musnad Ahmad 1/78), but its chain is weak. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is the hadith of A'ishah, narrated by Abd Allah bin Ahmad in 'Fada'il al-Sahabah' (216), al-Tabarani in 'al-Awsat' (4448) and al-Bayhaqi in 'al-Dala'il' 7/202; its chain is also weak. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A third supporting report is the hadith of Ibn Umar, narrated by al-Qati'i in his additions to 'Fada'il al-Sahabah' (592), but its chain is very weak. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is reported as mursal from Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Taymi and Muhammad bin Qays al-Madani in Ibn Sa'd's 'al-Tabaqat' 2/196, but both chains, besides being mursal, are also weak.
(2119). Important point: (1) In the two Sahihs (al-Bukhari 664, Muslim 418), the narration of A'ishah is that the people were praying following Abu Bakr, and Abu Bakr was praying following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Variation in the chain: In some other narrations it is stated that Abu Bakr was the imam and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed behind him. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar pointed to this discrepancy in 'al-Fath' 3/166 (in our edition) and explained that some scholars preferred one narration over the other, while others reconciled them by taking the incident to have occurred more than once; among those who took it as multiple incidents is Ibn Hibban in his "Sahih" after hadith (2119). Reference / Source: It is established from the hadith of al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (Muslim 274) that during the expedition of Tabuk the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed behind Abd al-Rahman bin Awf.
