حدَّثَناه أبو الحُسين (2) علي بن عبد الرحمن السَّبيعي بالكوفة، حدثنا أحمد بن حازم بن أبي غَرَزَة، حدثنا عثمان بن سعيد المُرِّي، حدثنا مِسعَر، عن سعد بن إبراهيم، فذكره بنحوه (3).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه، وقد اتَّفقا على إخراج حديث شعبة، عن عمرو بن مُرَّة، عن أبي عُبيدة، عن عبد الله: أنه لم يكن مع النبي ﷺ ليلةَ الجِنِّ (4).

This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it, although both of them agreed on recording, through the chain of Amr bin Murrah, the hadith of Abu Ubaydah from Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) that he was not with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Night of the Jinn.

(2) تحرَّف في (ص) و (ب) و (ع) إلى الحسن. وأبو الحسين هذا: هو علي بن عبد الرحمن ابن عيسى -كما جاء في غير موضع عند المصنف- السبيعي، وهو ابن مَاتَي مولى آل زيد بن علي العلوي، ترجمه الذهبي في "سير أعلام النبلاء" 15/ 566. والسَّبيعي في اسمه: نسبة إلى مَحلَّة بالكوفة يقال لها: السَّبِيع.
Technical note: (2) In the manuscripts it had become "al-Hasan"; the correct form is "Abu al-Husayn" (Ali bin Abd al-Rahman al-Sabi'i), who was a client (mawla) of the family of Zayd bin Ali.

وأخرجه أحمد (7/ 4074) عن عبد القدوس بن بكر بن خُنيس، عن مسعر، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (7/4074) narrated it via the chain of Abd al-Quddus bin Bakr from Mis'ar, with this same chain.
(4) هذا ذهول من الحاكم ﵀، فإنهما لم يخرجاه من هذا الطريق، وهما لم يخرجا شيئًا ¤ ¤ لأبي عبيدة عن أبيه، لأنه لم يصحَّ سماعه منه، والحديث الذي أشار إليه أخرجه مسلم في "صحيحه" (450) دون البخاري، وهو عنده من طريق علقمة بن قيس النخعي عن عبد الله بن مسعود.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (4) This is an oversight (dhuhul) of al-Hakim: the two Shaykhs did not narrate it via this route, nor did they include any narration of Abu Ubaydah from his father, since his hearing from him is not established. Imam Muslim (450) narrated it via the chain of Alqamah bin Qays from Ibn Mas'ud.
وأما طريق شعبة فقد أخرجها ابن أبي شيبة 13/ 91، والبغوي في "الجعديات" (106)، والدارقطني في "السنن" (246) وغيرهم عن عمرو بن مرة قال: قلت لأبي عبيدة: أكان عبد الله مع النبي ﷺ ليلة الجن؟ قال: لا.
Reference / Source: The narration of Amr bin Murrah (Ibn Abi Shaybah 13/91; al-Baghawi in al-Ja'diyyat 106; al-Daraqutni in al-Sunan 246) establishes that Abu Ubaydah himself acknowledged that his father (Ibn Mas'ud) was not with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Night of the Jinn.
