Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" aloud (jahr).
Imam al-Hakim says: This chain is sahih (authentic) and there is no hidden defect ('illah) in it; Bukhari and Muslim used its narrators as evidence, but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "talif" (utterly ruined, the most severely weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Regarding the narrator Abd Allah bin Amr bin Hassan, al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis" that several hadith scholars declared him a liar, and such a matter should not have been hidden from a scholar like the author (al-Hakim). (49). Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Ma'rifat al-Sunan wa al-Athar" (3070) by way of Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Rahawayh, with the chain Yahya bin Adam from Sharik. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Bayhaqi said that Ishaq narrated it from Yahya bin Adam as "mursal"; and in fact it is mursal in the same way in "Musnad Ishaq", as mentioned in al-Khatib al-Baghdadi's treatise "al-Jahr bi al-Basmalah" (49). Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni (1160) recorded it by way of Abu al-Salt al-Harawi, with the chain Abbad bin al-Awwam from Sharik. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Abu al-Salt" is accused of lying. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (11442) recorded it with the chain Ibn Jurayj from Ata' from Ibn Abbas. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In its chain is Ishaq bin Muhammad al-Arzami, who is a "matruk" narrator. Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (526 - Kashf al-Astar) recorded it by way of Isma'il bin Hammad from Abu Khalid, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Bazzar said that Isma'il is alone in this narration and that he is not a strong narrator in hadith. Reference / Source: With al-Tirmidhi (245) this same chain comes with the wording: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin his prayer with Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim." Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said that its chain is not that strong (reliable). Important point: We say that this is established as mawquf from the practice of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) himself, and it has been reported from him by several routes, as al-Khatib al-Baghdadi mentioned in his treatise "al-Jahr bi al-Basmalah".
