إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْهِ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ أَوْ لِيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا

حدثنا يوسف بن يعقوب السُّوسِي، حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل بن مِهْران، حدثنا عبد الوهاب بن نَجْدة الحَوْطي، حدثنا شعيب بن إسحاق وبَقيَّة قالا: حدثنا الأوزاعي، حدثني محمد بن الوليد، عن سعيد بن أبي سعيد، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرة، عن رسول الله ﷺ قال: "إذا صلَّى أحدُكم فليَخلَعْ نَعلَيه … (3) بين رجلَيه، وليُصَلِّ (4) فيهما" (5).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you prays, let him take off his sandals and place them between his feet, or pray in them."

(3) وقع هنا بياض في النسخ الخطية، وفي "تلخيص الذهبي": "فخلع نعليه فلا يضعهما أمامه ولا عن يمينه، وليضعهما بين رجليه … "، وفي سائر المصادر التي خرجته من طريق الأوزاعي: "فلا يؤذ بهما أحدًا وليجعلهما … ".
(Note / Clarification): (3) There was a blank space here in the manuscripts. In al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" the wording is: "Then he took off his sandals; he should not place them in front of him nor on his right, but should place them between his feet …". In the other narrations of al-Awza'i it is: "He should not harm anyone with them, but should place them …".
(4) هكذا في نسخنا الخطية، وفي مصادر التخريج: "أو ليصلِّ" وهو أصح.
Technical note: (4) This is how it appears in our manuscripts, whereas in the source works it is "aw li-yusalli" (or let him pray), and that is more correct.
(5) إسناده صحيح، وبقية - وهو ابن الوليد - متكلَّم فيه لكنه هنا متابَع. محمد بن الوليد: هو الزُّبيدي.
Grading: (5) Its chain is sahih. Although Baqiyyah bin al-Walid has been criticised, he is corroborated here.
Technical note: Muhammad bin al-Walid refers to al-Zubaydi.
وأخرجه أبو داود (655) عن عبد الوهاب بن نجدة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (655) narrated it through Abd al-Wahhab bin Najdah, with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن حبان (2182) من طريق بشر بن بكر، عن الأوزاعي، به. وانظر (965).
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (2182) narrated it through Bishr bin Bakr, from al-Awza'i. See number (965).
