Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 958

Ibn al-Daylami, who lived in Bayt al-Maqdis, rode out in search of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Madinah. He asked about him, and they said: He has gone to Makkah. So he followed him and found that he had gone on to al-Ta'if. He followed him and found him in his farmland called al-Waht. Ibn al-Daylami said: I went in to him and found him walking hand in hand with a man from Quraysh, and the Qurashi was suspected of drinking wine. When I met him, I greeted him and he returned my greeting. He said: What has brought you out, and where have you come from? So I told him. Then I asked him: O Abdullah bin Amr, did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say anything about the one who drinks wine? He said: Yes. The Qurashi pulled his hand away and left. Then he said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "No man of my Ummah drinks wine and then has a prayer of his accepted for forty days."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
