أخبرني عبد الله بن محمد بن موسى، حدثنا محمد بن أيوب، أخبرنا يحيى بن المُغِيرة. وأخبرنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا محمد شاذانَ، حدثنا قُتَيبة؛ قالا: حدثنا جَرِير، عن عطاء بن السائب، عن سالم البَرَّاد قال: أَتَينا عُقْبَةَ بن عَمْرو أبا مسعود فقلنا: حدِّثنا عن صلاةِ رسول الله ﷺ، فقام بين أيدينا في المسجد فكبَّر، فلما ركع كبَّر ووَضَعَ راحتَيهِ على رُكْبتيه وجعل أصابعَه أسفلَ من ذلك ثم جافَى مِرفَقَيهِ، ثم قال: هكذا رأَينا رسولَ الله ﷺ[يَفعَل (2)] (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد وفيه ألفاظٌ عزيزة، ولم يُخرجاه لإعراضِهما عن عطاء بن السائب (4).

Salim al-Barrad narrates: We came to Uqbah bin Amr Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Tell us about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." So he stood before us in the mosque and said the takbir. Then when he bowed he said the takbir, placed his palms on his knees, and put his fingers below that, then kept his elbows away from his sides, and said: "This is how we saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) doing it."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad) and contains rare wordings, but the two Shaykhs did not record it because they turned away from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib.

(2) مكان لفظ "يفعل" في نسخنا الخطية بياض، وأثبتناه من "تلخيص الذهبي".
Technical note: (2) In the manuscripts the place of the word "yaf'al" was blank; we have supplied it from al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis".
(3) إسناده صحيح. جرير: هو ابن عبد الحميد، وهو ممَّن روى عن عطاء بن السائب بعد اختلاطه، لكن تابعه على روايته هذه غيرُ واحدٍ ممَّن روى عن عطاء في الصِّحة قبل اختلاطه، فصحَّ الحديث.
Grading: (3) Its chain is sahih. Although Jarir heard from 'Ata' bin al-Sa'ib after his ikhtilat (mental deterioration), this hadith is sahih because of the corroboration of trustworthy narrators.
وأخرجه أبو داود (863) عن زهير بن حرب، عن جرير، بهذا الإسناد - بأطول مما هنا.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (863) narrated it in detail with the chain of Zuhayr bin Harb from Jarir.
وأخرجه أحمد 28/ (17076) و (17081) و 37/ (22359)، والنسائي (628) و (629) من طرق عن عطاء بن السائب، به. وبعضهم يزيد فيه على بعض.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (28/17076 etc.) and al-Nasa'i (628, 629) narrated it through various routes from 'Ata' bin al-Sa'ib.
(4) قد روى له البخاري حديثًا واحدًا برقم (6578) مقرونًا بغيره، وهو حديث موقوف على ابن عباس.
Criticism of a narrator: (4) Imam al-Bukhari took only one hadith (6578) from him, joined with other narrators, and it is mawquf on Ibn 'Abbas.
