(2). Sayyiduna Sahl bin al-Hanzaliyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Hunayn, he said: "Is there not a man who will guard us tonight?" Anas bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi said: "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Go." The next morning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and said: "Have you sensed any sign of your horseman?" They said: "No." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began praying while glancing towards the mountain pass (to check on the guard). When he finished with the salam, he said: "Your horseman has come." When he arrived, he said: "Perhaps you dismounted?" He said: "No, except to pray or to relieve myself." Then he said: "I looked over the two passes, and there were Hawazin with their women in litters, their sheep and their camels, heading towards Hunayn." the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That will be spoils for the Muslims tomorrow, if Allah wills."

Grading: Its chain is sahih. (2464). Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (916, 2501) and al-Nasa'i (8819) narrated it via Abu Tawbah with this same chain. With both of them its wording is the same as in the author's narration that will come later at number (2464). Details of the narration: This narration will come later at number (5045) in abridged form, similar to the story of keeping guard, but as a narration of Abu Kabshah al-Saluli from Abu Marthad instead of Sahl Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, and that the horseman who kept guard over them was "Abu Marthad" himself; however, its chain is weak.
