1 النَّهْيُ عَنْ تَمَنِّي الْمَوْتِ

The prohibition of wishing for death

2 خِيَارُكُمْ أَطْوَلُكُمْ أَعْمَارًا وَأَحْسَنُكُمْ عَمَلًا

The best of you are those with the longest lives and the best deeds

3 يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ عَلَى مَا مَاتَ

Every servant will be resurrected upon what he died upon

The dead person will be resurrected in the clothes in which he dies

Fever washes away sins

11 أَتَتِ الْحُمَّى النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ عَلَيْهِ

Fever came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked his permission

12 لَا يَزَالُ الْبَلَاءُ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ فِي نَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ حَتَّى يَلْقَى اللَّهَ وَمَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَطِيئَةٍ

Trials continue to afflict the believer in himself, his wealth and his children until he meets Allah with no sin upon him

13 قِصَّةُ أَعْرَابِيٍّ لَمْ تَأْخُذْهُ الْحُمَّى وَالصُّدَاعُ قَطُّ

The account of a Bedouin who never had fever or headache

14 مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ يُصِيبُ الْمُؤْمِنَ فِي جَسَدِهِ يُؤْذِيهِ إِلَّا كَفَّرَ عَنُه مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِهِ

Nothing afflicts the believer in his body and harms him but Allah expiates some of his sins for it

15 الْمَرِيضُ يُكْتَبُ لَهُ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ مَا كَانَ يَعْمَلُ فِي الصِّحَّةِ

The good deeds the sick person used to do when healthy are recorded for him

16 لِلْمُسْلِمِ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِ أَرْبَعٌ مِنْهَا عِيَادَتُهُ إِذَا مَرِضَ وَيُشَيِّعُهُ إِذَا مَاتَ

A Muslim has four rights over a Muslim, among them visiting him when he is ill and following his funeral when he dies

17 فَضِيلَةُ عِيَادَةِ الْمَرِيضِ

The virtue of visiting the sick

3 hadith (1309 — 1311)

18 لَا تُكْرِهُوا مَرْضَاكُمْ عَلَى الطَّعَامِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُطْعِمُهُمْ

Do not force your sick to eat, for Allah feeds them

1 hadith (1312 — 1312)

19 فَضِيلَةُ مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ

The virtue of one who says La ilaha illallah at death

20 مَنْ كَانَ آخِرُ كَلَامِهِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللُّهُ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ

Whoever's last words are La ilaha illallah will enter Paradise

21 رُخْصَةُ الْبُكَاءِ قَبْلَ الْمَوْتِ وَمَنْعُهُ بَعْدَهُ

The permission to weep before death and its prohibition after it

22 تَغْمِيضُ بَصَرِ الْمَيِّتِ

Closing the eyes of the deceased

23 حَالَةُ قَبْضِ رُوحِ الْمُؤْمِنِ وَرُوحِ الْكَافِرِ وَمَا يُقَالُ لَهُ وَيُفْعَلُ بِهِ

How the soul of the believer and the soul of the disbeliever are taken, and what is said to each and done with him

24 يوجه المحتضر إلى القبلة

The dying person is turned towards the qiblah

25 فضيلة تغسيل الميت وتكفينه وحفر قبره

The virtue of washing the deceased, shrouding him and digging his grave

26 الكفن في ثياب البيض أطهر وأطيب

Shrouding in white garments is purer and better

27 إِذَا أَجْمَرْتُمُ الْمَيِّتَ فَأَوْتِرُوا

When you perfume the deceased with incense, do it an odd number of times

28 الرَّمَلُ بِالْجِنَازَةِ

Walking briskly with the funeral

29 الْمَاشِي أَمَامَ الْجِنَازَةِ وَالرَّاكِبُ خَلْفَهَا

The one walking goes in front of the funeral and the one riding behind it

30 كَرَاهَةُ الرُّكُوبِ مَعَ الْجِنَازَةِ

The dislike of riding with the funeral

31 إِذَا اتَّبَعْتُمْ جِنَازَةً فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

When you follow a funeral, do not sit until it is put down

32 كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى جِنَازَةً قَامَ حَتَّى يَمُرَّ بِهَا

When he saw a funeral, he would stand until it had passed

Reciting al-Fatihah in the funeral prayer

The supplications of the funeral prayer

35 الْمُؤْمِنُ يَمُوتُ بِعَرَقِ الْجَبِينِ

The believer dies with sweat on his brow

The virtue of three rows in the funeral prayer

39 إِذَا اسْتَهَلَّ الصَّبِيُّ وُرِثَ وَصُلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ

If an infant cries out at birth, he inherits and the funeral prayer is offered for him

Offering the funeral prayer in the house

The martyrdom of Hamzah and the prayer over him

The prayer over the martyrs of Uhud

43 إِذَا وَضَعْتُمْ مَوْتَاكُمْ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ فَقُولُوا : بْسِمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

When you place your dead in their graves, say: In the name of Allah and upon the religion of the Messenger of Allah

44 إِذَا وَضَعَ الْمَيِّتَ فِي قَبْرِهِ قَالَ : بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

When he placed the deceased in his grave he would say: In the name of Allah and upon the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah

45 لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ سِيقَ مِنْ أَرْضِهِ وَسَمَائِهِ إِلَى تُرْبَتِهِ الَّتِي مِنْهَا خُلِقَ

(The one who says) La ilaha illallah is driven from his land and sky to the soil from which he was created

46 إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ قَبْضَ عَبْدٍ بِأَرْضٍ جَعَلَ لَهُ فِيهَا حَاجَةً

When Allah wills to take a servant's soul in a land, He gives him a need there

47 فَضِيلَةُ رَفْعِ الصَّوْتِ بِالذِّكْرِ

The virtue of raising the voice in remembrance

48 تَحْسِينُ الْكَفَنِ

Making the shroud good

49 صِفَةُ قَبْرِ النَّبِيِّ _ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَصَاحِبَيْهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا

The description of the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his two companions (may Allah be pleased with them)

The prohibition of plastering graves, writing on them and building over them

51 عَمَلُ السَّلَفِ وَالْخَلَفِ فِي الْكِتَابَةِ عَلَى الْقُبُورِ

The practice of the early and later generations regarding writing on graves

52 الِاسْتِغْفَارُ وَسُؤَالُ التَّثْبِيتِ لِلْمَيِّتِ عِنْدَ الدَّفْنِ

Seeking forgiveness and asking for steadfastness for the deceased at burial

53 إِنَّ الْقَبْرَ أَوَّلُ مَنَازِلِ الْآخِرَةِ

The grave is the first stage of the Hereafter

The parable of man, his family, his wealth and his deeds

58 زِيَارَةُ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَبْرَ أُمِّهِ

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visiting his mother's grave

59 الْحَزِينُ فِي ظِلِّ اللَّهِ

The grieving person is in the shade of Allah

60 كَانَتْ فَاطِمَةُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا تَزُورُ قَبْرَ عَمِّهَا حَمْزَةَ كُلَّ جُمُعَةٍ ، وَسُنِّيَّةُ زَيَارَةِ الْقُبُورِ

Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to visit the grave of her uncle Hamzah every Friday, and visiting graves being Sunnah

61 الْمَغْفِرَةُ بِشَهَادَةِ الْجِيرَانِ

Forgiveness through the testimony of neighbours

62 دَلَالَةُ الْعَمَلِ الَّذِي تُسْتَحَقُّ بِهِ الْجَنَّةُ

Guidance to the deed by which Paradise is earned

63 الْمَيَّتُ يَسْمَعُ خَفْقَ نِعَالِهِمْ

The deceased hears the footsteps of their sandals
