It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit Abdullah bin Ubayy (the hypocrite) during the illness in which he died. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) recognised the signs of death on him and said: "I used to forbid you from loving the Jews. He replied: As'ad bin Zurarah hated them, so what good did that do him?! Then, when he died, his son came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Abdullah bin Ubayy has died; please give me your blessed shirt so that I may shroud him in it. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took off his blessed shirt and gave it to him."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it in this way.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: (1) The wording was distorted in the printed edition; the correct name is "al-Hasan bin 'Abd al-Samad al-Sulami", who belonged to a family of scholars in Naysabur, and his hadith is "hasan".
Grading: (2) Muhammad bin Ishaq has explicitly stated that he heard it directly, so the chain is "hasan". The incident of the shirt being put on 'Abd Allah bin Ubayy (the hypocrite) is established in the two Sahihs through other chains. Technical note: There is a difference over the order of the name; the correct form is "Ahmad bin Mula'ib bin Hayyan", who is a trustworthy hafiz of hadith. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (3094) narrated it via the chain of 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Yahya with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad (36/21758) narrated it in abridged form via the chain of Yahya bin Abi Za'idah from Ibn Ishaq, without the story of Ibn Ubayy's son. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The incident of the death of 'Abd Allah bin Ubayy and the shirt is established in al-Bukhari (1296) and Muslim from the hadiths of Ibn 'Umar and Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them).
