Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1279

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come (on foot) to visit me when I was ill; at that time he (peace and blessings be upon him) rode neither a mule nor a Turkish horse (birdhawn).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not include it in their Sahihs.

Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (5664), Muslim (1616), al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i narrated it. Muslim's narration is lengthy and mentions him (peace and blessings be upon him) pouring the water of his ablution over Jabir (who was unconscious), and Jabir, on regaining consciousness, asking about inheritance.
(Clarification): "al-birdhawn": according to al-Qadi 'Iyad, it refers to a horse that is not of pure Arab or noble breed.
