Mustadrak al-Hakim 1352 — Musk is the best of perfumes

أخبرَناه عبد الصمد بن علي البزَّاز ببغداد، حدثنا حامد بن سَهْل، حدثنا أبو مَعمَر، حدثنا عبد الوارث عن المُستمِرِّ بن الرَّيّان، عن أبي نَضْرة، عن أبي سعيد الخُدْرِي: أنَّ النبي ﷺ سُئِل عن المِسْك، فقال: "هو أطيَبُ طِيبِكم" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، فإنَّ خُلَيدَ بن جعفر والمُستَمِرَّ بن الرَّيّانِ عِدادُهما في الثِّقات، ولم يُخرجا عنهما. وله شاهدٌ عن علي بن أبي طالب، وإليه ذهب أحمد بن حنبل:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about musk, and he said: "It is the best of your perfumes."
This hadith has an authentic chain, because Khulayd bin Ja'far and al-Mustamirr bin al-Rayyan are counted among the reliable (thiqah) narrators, although the two Shaykhs did not narrate from them. It has a supporting narration (shahid) from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) as well, and this is also the position of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal:

Grading: (2) Its chain is sahih. Abu Ma'mar and Abd al-Warith are trustworthy narrators in it.
وأخرجه أحمد 17/ (11311) و (11364) و 18/ (11426) و (11590) و (11646)، ومسلم (2252) (19)، وأبو داود (3158)، والنسائي (2044) و (9353)، وابن حبان (5591) ¤ ¤ و (5592) من طرق عن المستمر بن الريان، بهذا الإسناد. وأورده بعضهم ضمن قصة المرأة من بني إسرائيل.
Reference / Source: Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawud (3158) and Ibn Hibban narrated it through routes from al-Mustamirr bin al-Rayyan with this same chain.
