أخبرني إسماعيل بن محمد الفقيه بالرَّيّ، حدثنا أبو حاتم الرَّازي، حدثنا سعيد بن كَثِير بن عُفَير، حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب، أخبرني يحيى بن أيوب، عن خالد بن يزيد، عن أبي الزُّبير عن جابر بن عبد الله: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ عادَ امرأة من الأنصار، فقال لها: "أهيَ أُمُّ مِلْدَم؟ " قالت: نعم فَلَعَنَها الله، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "لا تَسُبِّيها، فإنها تَغسِلُ ذنوبَ العبد كما يُذهِبُ الكِيرُ خَبَثَ الحديد" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم ولم يُخرجاه بهذا اللفظ، إنما أخرجه مسلم بغير هذا اللفظ من حديث حَجَّاج بن أبي عثمان عن أبي الزُّبير (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited a woman of the Ansar and asked her: "Is it Umm Mildam (fever)?" She said: Yes, may Allah curse it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not revile it, for it washes away the sins of the servant just as the furnace removes the impurities of iron."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it with these words; Imam Muslim recorded it with different wording through the narration of Hajjaj bin Abi Uthman from Abu al-Zubayr.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل يحيى بن أيوب - وهو الغافقي - وقد توبع. أبو حاتم الرازي: هو الإمام الحافظ محمد بن إدريس بن المنذر، وخالد بن يزيد: هو الجمحي، وأبو الزبير وهو محمد بن مسلم بن تَدرُس - قد صرَّح بالتحديث فيما سلف برقم (249) فانتفت شبهة تدليسه.
Grading: (1) The hadith is sahih; the chain is hasan because of Yahya bin Ayyub al-Ghafiqi, and he is corroborated. Abu al-Zubayr explicitly stated that he heard it directly earlier (at number 249).
فقد سلف برقم (249) من طريق نافع بن يزيد عن خالد بن يزيد، وسلف تخريجه هناك.
Repetition: It has passed at number (249) via the chain of Nafi' bin Yazid from Khalid bin Yazid.
وأم ملدم - بكسر الميم وسكون اللام وفتح الدال -: هي كنية الحمى، والميم الأولي زائدة.
(Clarification): "Umm Mildam" is a kunyah (nickname) of fever; the first mim in it is extra.
(2) أخرجه مسلم (2575)، ولفظه عن جابر: أن رسول الله ﷺ دخل على أم السائب أو أم المسيب فقال: "ما لكِ يا أم السائب - أو يا أم المسيب - تزفزفين؟ قالت: الحمى، لا بارك الله فيها، فقال: "لا تسبي الحمى، فإنها تذهب خطايا بني آدم كما يذهب الكير خبث الحديد".
