Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that fever came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked permission to enter. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who are you?" It said: I am Umm Mildam (fever). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Would you like to be sent to the people of Quba'?" It said: Yes. So it went to them and they caught fever, which caused them severe hardship. They complained of it to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We are in great distress because of the fever. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, I will supplicate to Allah and He will remove it from you, and if you wish, it will become a means of purification (tahur) for you." They said: "No, rather let it remain a means of purification for us."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) The chain is strong (qawi) because of Abu Sufyan (Talhah bin Nafi'), although there is some strangeness (gharabah) in the text. Jarir refers to Ibn 'Abd al-Hamid. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (2935) narrated it via the chain of Jarir. Reference / Source: Ahmad (22/14393) narrated it via the chain of Abu Mu'awiyah from al-A'mash. Reference / Source: It is authentically established from 'A'ishah in al-Bukhari (1889) and Muslim (1376) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated that the fever of Madinah be transferred to "al-Juhfah". (Clarification): According to Ibn Battal, al-Juhfah was at that time a land of polytheism, so sending the fever there was a kind of supplication against them; but sending fever to the people of Quba' (who were Muslims) was a mercy and an expiation for sins, so that their ranks would be raised.
