أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الوهاب الفَرّاء، أخبرنا جعفر بن عَوْن، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله المسعودي، عن عبد الله بن عثمان بن خُثَيم. وحدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق الفقيه، أخبرنا إسماعيل بن قُتَيبة، حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، أخبرنا يحيى بن سُلَيم، عن عبد الله بن عثمان بن خُثَيم، عن سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عباسٍ، قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "خيرُ ثيابِكم البَيَاض، فأَلْبِسُوها أحياءَكم، وكفِّنوا فيها مَوْتاكم" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه. وشاهدُه صحيح عن سَمُرة بن جُندُب:

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of your garments is white, so wear it in your lifetime and shroud your dead in it."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but they did not record it, while there is an authentic supporting narration (shahid) for it from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him):

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد قوي، عبد الله بن عثمان بن خثيم، صدوق لا بأس به، ويحيى بن سليم - وهو الطائفي - حسن الحديث وقد توبع هنا.
Grading: (1) It is "sahih li-ghayrihi"; this chain is strong (qawi). 'Abd Allah bin 'Uthman is saduq, and Yahya bin Sulaym is hasan al-hadith and is corroborated.
وأخرجه أحمد 5/ (3342) من طريق وكيع بن الجراح، عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله المسعودي بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (5/3342) narrated it via the chain of Waki' bin al-Jarrah from al-Mas'udi with this same chain.
وأخرجه أبو داود (4061)، وابن ماجه (1472) و (3566)، والترمذي (994) من طرق عن عبد الله بن عثمان بن خثيم، به.

وأخرجه مجموعًا مع الحديث الآتي عند المصنف برقم (7565) من طرق عن ابن خثيم أيضًا: أحمد 4/ (2219) و (2479) و 5/ (3035) و (3426)، وأبو داود (3878)، وابن حبان (5423).
Reference / Source: Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Ibn Hibban narrated it combined with another hadith (at number 7565) via routes from Ibn Khuthaym.
ويشهد له حديث سمرة بن جندب الآتي بعده.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Samurah bin Jundab (may Allah be pleased with him) that comes after it is a supporting report (shahid) for it.
وفي الباب عن أبي الدرداء عند ابن ماجه (3568)، وإسناده واهٍ.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is the narration of Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ibn Majah (3568), but its chain is very weak (wahi).
