حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا يحيى بنُ محمد بن يحيى، حدثنا مُسدَّد، حدثنا المعتمِر. وحدثنا محمد بنُ صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا جعفر بنُ محمد بن سَوَّار، حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد، حدثنا إسماعيل بن جعفر؛ جميعًا عن حميدٍ، عن أنس: أنَّ النبي ﷺ قال: "إذا أرادَ الله بعبدٍ خيرًا استعمَلَه"، قال: فقيل: كيف يَستعملُه؟ قال: "يُوفِّقُه لعملٍ صالحٍ قبل الموت" (1).
هذا حديثٌ صحيحٌ على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. وله شاهد بإسناد صحيح:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty intends good for a servant, He employs him (for His religion)." It was said: "How does Allah employ him?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He grants him the ability to do righteous deeds before death."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it, while there is a supporting witness (shahid) hadith for it with the following sahih chain:

(1) إسناده صحيح المعتمر: هو ابن سليمان، وحميد: هو ابن أبي حميد الطويل.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih. Al-Mu'tamir refers to Ibn Sulayman and Humayd to al-Tawil.
وأخرجه الترمذي (2142) عن علي بن حجر، عن إسماعيل بن جعفر، بهذا الإسناد. وقال: هذا حديث صحيح.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (2142) declared it "sahih".
وأخرجه أحمد 19/ (12036) و (12214) و 21/ (13408) من طرق عن حميد الطويل، به.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it through various chains from Humayd al-Tawil.
