حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا الرَّبيع بن سُلَيمان المُرَاديّ، حدثنا أَسَدُ بن موسى. وأخبرنا جعفر بن محمد بن نُصَير الخُلْدي ببغداد، حدثنا الحارث بن أبي أسامة، حدثنا سليمان بن داود الهاشمي؛ قالا: حدثنا إبراهيم بن سعد، عن أبيه، عن عبد الله بن أبي قتادةَ، عن أبيه أبي قتادةَ قال: كان النبيُّ ﷺ إذا دُعِي إلى جنازةٍ سأل عنها، فإن أُثني عليها خيرٌ صلَّى عليها، وإن أُثني عليها غيرُ ذلك قال لأهلها: "شأنَكم بها"، ولم يُصلِّ عليها (1).

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was called to a funeral, he would ask about the (deceased). If he was praised with good, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would lead the funeral prayer over him; and if something other than that (something bad) was said about him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say to his family: "You see to his affair," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not lead the funeral prayer over him himself.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. إبراهيم بن سعد: هو ابن إبراهيم بن عبد الرحمن بن عوف.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih. Ibrahim bin Sa'd is a trustworthy narrator.
وأخرجه أحمد 37/ (22555) و (22556)، وابن حبان (3057) من طريقين عن إبراهيم بن سعد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (37/22555) and Ibn Hibban (3057) narrated it through two routes from Ibrahim bin Sa'd with this same chain.
