إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ قَبْضَ عَبْدٍ بِأَرْضٍ جَعَلَ لَهُ فِيهَا حَاجَةً
When Allah wills to take a servant's soul in a land, He gives him a need there

ما حدَّثَناه أبو بكر أحمد بن سَلْمان الفقيه ببغداد، حدثنا الحسين بن بشار الخَيّاط، حدثنا إسحاق بن يوسف الأزرق، حدثنا داود بن أبي هند، عن الحسن، عن جُنْدُب بن سفيان قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "إذا أراد الله قبْضَ عبدٍ بأرضٍ، جَعَلَ له فيها - أو بها - حاجةً" (1). ومنها:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jundub bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty wishes to take the soul of a servant in a particular land, He creates for him some need or task there." And among them is this:
ما أخبرني علي بن العباس الإسكندراني العدل بمكة، حدثنا أبو جعفر أحمد بن عبد الواحد الحِمْصي، حدثنا كَثِير بن عُبيد المَذْحِجي، حدثنا محمد بن خالد الوَهْبي، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، عن قيس بن أبي حازم، عن عبد الله بن مسعود، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "إذا كانت مَنِيَّةُ أحدِكم بأرضٍ، أُتيحَتْ له الحاجة فيَقْصِدُ إليها، فيكونُ أقصى أثرٍ منه، فتُقبَضُ رُوحُه فيها، فتقولُ الأرض يوم القيامة: ربِّ هذا ما استَودَعْتَني" (1). ومنها:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the time of death of one of you is written in a particular land, a need is created for him there; then he sets out for it, and when he reaches his last footstep, his soul is taken there. Then on the Day of Resurrection that land will say: 'O my Lord, this is the trust that You deposited with me.'" And among them is this:
ما حدَّثَناه أبو العباس قاسم بن القاسم السَّيَّاري بمَرْو، حدثنا محمد بن موسى الباشاني، حدثنا علي بن الحسن (2) بن شَقِيق، حدثنا أبو حمزة السُّكَّري، عن أبي إسحاق، عن مَطَر بن عُكامِس العَبْديِّ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "ما جُعِل أجَلُ رجلٍ في أرضٍ، إلّا جُعِلتْ له فيها حاجةٌ" (3). ومنها:
Sayyiduna Matar bin Ukamis al-Abdi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty has not appointed the time of any man's death in a land except that He has created for him some need to go there." And among them is this:
ما حدَّثَناه أبو علي الحافظ غيرَ مرةٍ، أخبرنا الحسين بن نَهَار العسكري، حدثنا زيد بن الحَرِيش، حدثنا عِمْران بن عُيَينة، عن إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، عن الشَّعبي، عن عُروة بن مُضَرِّس قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "إذا أرادَ الله قَبْضَ عبدٍ بأرضٍ، جَعَلَ له إليها حاجةً" (1).
Sayyiduna Urwah bin Mudarris (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty intends to take the soul of a servant in a particular land, He creates for him some need to go there."
