Bashir bin Nahik narrates: A Bashir of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (a Companion who brought good tidings), whose name in the Jahiliyyah was Zahm bin Ma'bad, told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What is your name?" He said: Zahm bin Ma'bad. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Bashir," and so that became his name. He narrates: Once I was walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn al-Khasasiyah, what grievance do you have against Allah? You are walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." I said: I have no grievance against Allah about anything; He has done every kind of good to me. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the graves of the polytheists and said three times: "These people have missed out on much good." Then he came to the graves of the Muslims and said three times: "These people have attained much good." While he (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking, his glance suddenly fell on a man walking among the graves wearing shoes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O wearer of the two sibtiyyah sandals (sandals of tanned, hairless leather)! Woe to you, take off these shoes of yours." The man looked, and when he recognised the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he took off his shoes and threw them away.

It is narrated from the Bashir (Companion) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man walking among the graves wearing shoes, and said: "O wearer of the two sibtiyyah sandals (sandals of tanned, hairless leather)! Take them both off."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; it is of the type in which the Companion is known only through two Tabi'is.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: We buried a man with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When we turned back and came level with the door of his (peace and blessings be upon him) house, there was a woman there; we did not think that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had recognised her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Fatimah, where have you come from?" She said: I have come from the family of the deceased; I prayed for mercy for their deceased and offered them condolences. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perhaps you went with them as far as al-kuda (the graveyard)?" She said: I seek refuge in Allah from going with them as far as the graveyard, when I have heard you say about it what you said. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you had gone with them as far as the graveyard, you would not have seen Paradise until your father's grandfather sees it." And al-kuda means the graveyard.
Haywah bin Shurayh narrated it from Rabi'ah bin Sayf:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a woman returning from a funeral. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "Where have you come from?" She said: I am coming from offering condolences to the family of this deceased. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, if you had gone with them as far as the graveyard, you would not have seen Paradise until your father's grandfather sees it."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the women who visit graves, and those who build mosques over them (the graves) and light lamps.
Imam al-Hakim says: This Abu Salih is not "al-Samman", who is used as evidence; rather he is Badhan, whom the two Shaykhs did not use as evidence. However, this hadith is accepted and in circulation among the Imams, and I found a corroborating narration (mutabi') for its text from the hadith of Sufyan al-Thawri, so I have recorded it.
