Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the women who visit graves, and those who build mosques over them (the graves) and light lamps.
Imam al-Hakim says: This Abu Salih is not "al-Samman", who is used as evidence; rather he is Badhan, whom the two Shaykhs did not use as evidence. However, this hadith is accepted and in circulation among the Imams, and I found a corroborating narration (mutabi') for its text from the hadith of Sufyan al-Thawri, so I have recorded it.

Technical note: (2) In the manuscripts the name was reversed (the correct form is Muhammad bin Ahmad).
Grading: (1) Apart from the mention of "lighting lamps", the rest of the hadith is hasan li-ghayrihi, but this chain is da'if because of the weakness of Abu Salih (Badhan). Hisham al-Tayalisi and Yahya al-Qattan are among its narrators. Reference / Source: Ahmad (3/2030) narrated it with the chain of Yahya al-Qattan alone. Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it with the chain of Ghundar (Muhammad bin Ja'far) alone. Reference / Source: Ahmad (5/2984) and Abu Dawud (3236) narrated it via routes from Shu'bah. Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1575), al-Tirmidhi (320), al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban narrated it with the chain Abd al-Warith bin Sa'id from Muhammad bin Juhadah, and al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The next hadith of Hassan bin Thabit is a supporting report (shahid) for it. For the legal details, see our note on Musnad Ahmad (2603).
