Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1307

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the Jahiliyyah a certain woman was a prostitute. A man passed by her, or she passed by him, and the man stretched out his hand towards her. The woman said: Stop! Allah has done away with polytheism and brought Islam. So the man left her and turned away, and he kept looking back at her (in remorse or distraction) until his face struck a wall. The man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the whole incident, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a servant for whom Allah has willed good, for when Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, wills good for a servant, He hastens the punishment of his sin for him in this very world, and when He wills evil for a servant, He withholds the punishment of his sin until he is paid in full for it on the Day of Resurrection."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but they did not record it.
