It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that a daughter of his died, and he followed the funeral riding a mule, while women were wailing (in lamentation) over her. He said: "Whether you wail or do not wail, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has certainly forbidden wailing; however, whoever of you wishes may shed her tears." Then he led the funeral prayer and said four takbirs. After the fourth takbir he remained standing for as long as the interval between two takbirs, supplicating and seeking forgiveness for her (his daughter), and he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do likewise.
This hadith is sahih (authentic), but they did not record it, and Ibrahim bin Muslim al-Hajari has not been criticised with any sound proof.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) The chain is da'if (weak) because of the weakness of Ibrahim bin Muslim al-Hajari. Al-Dhahabi also said this in al-Talkhis. However, saying four takbirs over the bier is established through other sahih routes. Reference / Source: Ahmad (31/19140) narrated it via Shu'bah from Ibrahim al-Hajari. Reference / Source: Ahmad and Ibn Majah (1503) narrated it through two routes from Ibrahim al-Hajari. Repetition: It will come in abridged form at number (1428), in which the prohibition of lamentation and elegies is mentioned. Grading: Al-Tabarani, Abu Nu'aym and al-Bayhaqi narrated via Abu Ya'fur from Abdullah bin Abi Awfa that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said four takbirs over a bier, and this chain is "hasan". (1348). Reference / Source: Four takbirs over the bier are established in al-Bukhari (1318) from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (it will come at number 1348). (952). Reference / Source: It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Bukhari (1334) and Muslim. (954). Reference / Source: It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in al-Bukhari (1319) and Muslim. 12/ (7147). Technical note: See our annotation on the Musnad of Ahmad (12/7147). (Note / Clarification): According to al-Sindi, "yarthina" means enumerating the virtues of the deceased (in the manner of lamentation). (Note / Clarification): "Wa-l-tufid" means that weeping without raising the voice (shedding tears) is permissible.
