Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He fell ill, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit him and said: "Say: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and (say about me) that you are the Messenger of Allah." The boy looked at his father, and the father said: "Accept what Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is saying." When the boy died (after reciting the testimony), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the funeral prayer over this brother of yours."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: (1) In the manuscripts it had become "Jubayr"; the correct name is "Jabr bin 'Atik", a well-known student of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).
Grading: (2) Apart from the phrase about the order to pray over the Jewish boy, the rest of the hadith is sahih. Sharik al-Nakha'i is alone in this addition and his memory was weak; this wording is not present in the other sahih narrations. Reference / Source: Ahmad (21/13736) and al-Nasa'i narrated it through routes from Sharik. (7982). Repetition: It will come again via Sharik at number (7982). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The other narration from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) is in the Musnad of Ahmad (20/12792) and al-Bukhari (1356) via Hammad bin Zayd, at the end of which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Praise be to Allah who saved him from the Fire", but it does not mention offering the funeral prayer (over that Jewish boy).
