It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to look after the Ansar, visit them when they were ill and ask about their circumstances. He (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of a woman of the Ansar whose only son had died and who was grieving intensely over him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her and exhorted her to be mindful of Allah and to be patient. The woman said: O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who is raqub (one whose children do not survive); I no longer hope for more children, and I had no son besides him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The real raqub is the one whose child remains (alive after her)." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any Muslim man or woman who has three children die, Allah Almighty will surely admit him into Paradise because of them." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, and if two die? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And (for) two as well."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it with the mention of the word raqub.

Grading: (1) Because of Bashir bin Muhajir this chain is hasan in corroborating chains, and the hadith is sahih li-ghayrihi. Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi narrated it via the chain of Ja'far bin 'Awn. (1248). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a supporting report (shahid) from the narration of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Bukhari (1248). (2632). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is in al-Bukhari (1251) and Muslim. (1061). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) is in Ahmad (7/3995) and Ibn Majah. (2633). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) is in al-Bukhari (101) and Muslim. (3554). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: For other Companions, see Musnad Ahmad (3554). (2608). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The explanation of "al-raqub" (one whose children do not survive) is found in the narration of Ibn Mas'ud in Sahih Muslim (2608). (Note / Clarification): According to Imam al-Nawawi, in the Shari'ah "al-raqub" is not the one whose children die, but the one none of whose children dies during his lifetime (that is, he is deprived of the reward for patience and for the affliction).
