حدثنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنْبري، حدثنا محمد بن عمرو الحَرَشي، حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، أخبرنا أبو معاوية، عن سُهَيل بن أبي صالح، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرةَ قال: كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا كان مع الجِنازة لم يَجلِسْ حتى تُرفَعَ أو تُوضَع (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه. وله شاهدٌ بمثل هذا الإسناد عن أبي سعيد:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was with a funeral, he would not sit until it was lifted (onto the shoulders) or placed (on the ground).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it, while a supporting narration (shahid) for it is also reported with this same chain from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri:

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل محمد بن عمرو الحَرَشي، ذكره الذهبي في "تاريخ الإسلام" 6/ 819 وقال: كان صدوقًا مقبولًا. قلنا: وقد توبع.
Grading: (2) It is a "sahih hadith"; Muhammad bin Amr al-Harashi is a saduq (truthful) and accepted narrator, and he has been corroborated.
يحيى بن يحيى: هو النيسابوري، وأبو معاوية: هو محمد بن خازم الضرير، وأبو صالح والد سهيل هو ذكوان السمان.
Technical note: Abu Mu'awiyah refers to al-Darir, and Abu Salih refers to Dhakwan al-Samman.
وأخرجه ابن حبان (3105) و (3106)، من طريق مسدد، عن أبي معاوية بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (3105, 3106) narrated it via Musaddad from Abu Mu'awiyah.
وفيه: لم يجلس حتى توضع في اللحد أو تدفن. شك أبو معاوية.
(Note / Clarification): In it there is doubt whether it is "he should not sit until the deceased is placed in the lahd (grave niche)" or "until he is buried".
وأخرجه البيهقي 4/ 26 من طريق سفيان الثوري، عن سهيل بن أبي صالح، به. وفيه: فلا يجلس حتى توضع بالأرض.
Reference / Source: In al-Bayhaqi's narration: "He should not sit until the bier is placed on the ground."
وأخرج أحمد 13/ (7593) من طريق سعيد ابن مرجانة، عن أبي هريرة رفعه: "من صلى على جنازة فلم يمش معها فليقم حتى تغيب عنه، ومن مشى معها فلا يجلس حتى توضع".
Reference / Source: It is narrated in the Musnad of Ahmad (13/7593): "Whoever does not walk with the bier should remain standing until it passes out of his sight."
وأخرج النسائي (2056) من طريق ابن عجلان، عن سعيد المقبري، عن أبي هريرة وأبي سعيد الخدري قالا: ما رأينا رسول الله ﷺ شهد جنازة قط فجلس حتى توضع.
Reference / Source: In al-Nasa'i (2056) it is narrated from Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with them) that we never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sit before the bier was set down.
