Book of Marriage

1 hadith (2705 — 2705)

2 لَا صَرُورَةَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ .

There is no celibacy in Islam

3 خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ أَكْثَرُهَا نِسَاءً .

The best of this Ummah are those with the most wives

4 لَمْ يُرَ لِلْمُتَحَابَّيْنِ مِثْلُ التَّزَوُّجِ .

Nothing has been seen like marriage for two who love each other

5 تَزَوَّجُوا النِّسَاءَ فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَأْتِينَكُمْ بِالْمَالِ .

Marry women, for they bring you wealth

6 أَيُّ النِّسَاءِ خَيْرٌ ؟

Which women are best?

7 ثَلَاثٌ مِنَ السَّعَادَةِ وَثَلَاثٌ مِنَ الشَّقَاوَةِ .

Three things are part of happiness and three are part of misery

8 تَزَوَّجُوا الْوَدُودَ الْوَلُودَ .

Marry the loving and fertile woman

9 تَخَيَّرُوا لِنُطَفِكُمْ فَانْكِحُوا الْأَكْفَاءَ وَأَنْكِحُوا إِلَيْهِمْ .

Choose carefully for your offspring, marry those who are compatible and marry your women to them

10 الْحَسَبُ الْمَالُ وَالْكَرَمُ التَّقْوَى .

Status is wealth and nobility is piety

11 كَرَمُ الْمُؤْمِنِ دِينُهُ وَمُرُوَّتُهُ عَقْلُهُ وَحَسَبُهُ خُلُقُهُ .

The nobility of the believer is his religion, his manliness is his intellect and his status is his character

3 hadith (2724 — 2726)

12 مَنْ أَعْطَى لِلَّهِ ، وَمَنَعَ لِلَّهِ ، وَأَحَبَّ لِلَّهِ ، وَأَبْغَضَ لِلَّهِ ، وَأَنْكَحَ لِلَّهِ ، فَقَدِ اسْتَكْمَلَ الْإِيمَانَ

Whoever gives for Allah, withholds for Allah, loves for Allah, hates for Allah and marries for Allah has completed his faith

13 إِذَا خَطَبَ أَحَدُكُمُ امْرَأَةً ، فَإِنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى بَعْضِ مَا يَدْعُوهُ إِلَى نِكَاحِهَا فَلْيَفْعَلْ

When one of you proposes to a woman, if he is able to look at some of what attracts him to marry her, let him do so

14 استخارة خطبة المرأة يريد نكاحها

Seeking guidance from Allah (istikharah) when proposing to a woman one intends to marry

15 أَلَا لَا يَنْكِحِ الزَّانِي الْمَجْلُودُ إِلَّا مِثْلَهُ

Beware: a flogged fornicator may only marry one like him

16 تُسْتَأْمَرُ الْيَتِيمَةُ فِي نَفْسِهَا

An orphan girl is to be consulted about her own marriage

17 لَا تَنْكِحُوا النِّسَاءَ حَتَّى تَسْتَأْمِرُوهُنَّ

Do not marry off women until you consult them

The marriage of Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)

Seeking guidance (istikharah) about proposing to a woman one wishes to marry

20 السُّلْطَانُ وَلِيُّ مَنْ لَا وَلِيَّ لَهُ .

The ruler is the guardian of one who has no guardian

21 اخْتِلَافُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَرَبِيعَةَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا - فِي عِذْقِ نَخْلَةٍ

The dispute of Abu Bakr and Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with them) over a cluster of dates

22 عَقْدُ النِّكَاحِ إِلَى الْأَوْلِيَاءِ دُونَهُنَّ

The marriage contract rests with the guardians, not with the women

23 إِذَا نَكَحَ الوَلِيَّانِ فَهُوَ لِلْأَوَّلِ ، وَإِذَا بَاعَ الْمُجِيزَانِ فَهُوَ لِلْأَوَّلِ

If two guardians give her in marriage, it belongs to the first, and if two agents sell, it belongs to the first

24 كَانَ صَدَاقُنَا إِذَا كَانَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَشْرَ أَوَاقٍ

When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was among us, our dowry was ten uqiyah

25 مَنْ قُتِلَ أَوْ مَاتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Whoever is killed or dies in the way of Allah is in Paradise

26 يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، لَا تُغَالُوا مَهْرَ النِّسَاءِ

O people, do not go to excess in the dowries of women

Marrying on the dowry of accepting Islam

Allah does not look at a woman who is ungrateful to her husband

Women are the majority of the people of Hell

If a slave marries without his master's permission he is a fornicator
