It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a proposal of marriage to Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her). She said: "O Abu Talhah, do you not know that the deity you worship is merely a piece of wood that grew out of the ground, which an Abyssinian slave of such-and-such tribe carved?! If you accept Islam, I will want nothing else from you as dowry." He said: "(Give me time) until I think over my affair." The narrator says: He went away, then came back and said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Then Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Anas, get up and marry Abu Talhah (to me)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. It also has a supporting narration (shahid) that is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs:
