Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is itself sahih, although this particular chain is weak because of the weakness of "al-Khadir bin Aban"; but he is corroborated, Sayyar bin Hatim's narration can be taken into account (yu'tabar bihi), and the hadith is also narrated through two other routes.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i narrated it in his book "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (8837) through 'Ali bin Muslim al-Tusi from Sayyar bin Hatim with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (19/12293) via Abu al-Mundhir Sallam bin Sulayman from Thabit (al-Bunani).
Status of the narrator and hadith: Sallam is "saduq" (truthful), and Imam al-Dhahabi considered this chain strong under his biography in "Mizan al-I'tidal".
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (5772) with the chain of Yahya bin 'Uthman al-Harbi, from al-Hiql bin Ziyad, from al-Awza'i, from Ishaq bin 'Abdullah bin Abi Talhah, from Anas bin Malik.
Technical note: Although some hadith scholars criticised Yahya's narration from Hiql, he is not alone in it; rather, 'Amr bin Hashim al-Beiruti corroborated him with this same chain, including the mention of prayer, in al-Diya' al-Maqdisi's "al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah" (4/1532).
