Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2720

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Choose (the best mothers) for your seed; marry those who are suitable matches (kufu'), and send marriage proposals to them."
Ikrimah bin Ibrahim has corroborated him in narrating it from Hisham bin Urwah.

Grading: This hadith is "hasan", if Allah wills, as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "al-Talkhis" (3/146).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although this chain is "da'if" because of al-Harith bin Imran, it rises to the level of hasan through other supporting reports and corroboration.
Note / Clarification: We have given the detailed discussion of this in our edition (tahqiq) of "Sunan Ibn Majah".
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1968) recorded it from Abd Allah bin Sa'id al-Kindi, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The best of its corroborating narrations (mutaba'at) are those recorded by Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Nafaqah 'ala al-'Iyal" (130) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (15/84) via two routes from Abu al-Nadr Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Dimashqi, from al-Hakam bin Hisham, from Hisham bin Urwah.
